AN oil slick from the container ship The MV Pacific Adventurer has now washed ashore on the north-eastern end of Moreton Island.
The spill was the result of 31 containers of ammonium nitrate falling overboard, with one piecing the hull of the ship.
As a result, up to to 100 tonnes of heavy fuel oil leaked into the sea.
Experts are divided on the environmental damage outcome if the ammonium nitrate finally finds it`s way into Moreton Bay.
The Ship was en-route from Newcastle in NSW to Brisbane.
Considering the massive seas in the area at the time,  a consequence of tropical cyclone Hamish, questions should be asked of the shipping company as to why the ship was in the area of these massive seas when obviously ill prepared for them.
The ship would have set out from Newcastle, fully aware as to the extent of the weather and chose to depart anyway.
The shipping company should be held totally accountable for this environmental vandalism.
